These are the main questions people ask as they consider giving to their church.

The church is a people not a building.

Primarily we give because it is a natural response to the generosity of God. We give for the mutual growth, well-being and collective purpose of the church.

But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. 1 Chronicles 29:14

God has given us all we need (and more!)

… so our response is to reflect his own generosity so that others may experience God’s love, hope and grow in faith.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7

Why should I give?

Giving is not a legalistic obligation but it does reflect our spiritual maturity. It is an integral part of following Jesus (who gave it all for us). Giving is part of being a disciple of Jesus.

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Luke 6:38

Where does it go?

It goes toward the ‘mission’ of the church, which includes reaching out to the local community, ministry, the practical running of the church and to ensure the church is ‘in the heart of Fowey’. It is administered in accordance with the Charity Commission and all accounts are audited.

What should I give?

The Bible tells us the tithe is a tenth of our earnings. A helpful way to see this is that if God has given us 100% of all we have, he is incredibly generous to let us have 90%! Individual gifts are in addition to the tithe.

Why does it matter?

Giving leads to joy. As we release money to God, he promises to honour our obedience.

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25

How should we give?
